Grading & Leveling in West Tennessee

After the brush is gone, the ground often needs shaping. We grade and level small to mid-size areas so water drains properly and the site is ready for the next step.

What is grading and leveling?

Grading reshapes the surface of the ground. That can mean smoothing rough ground, leveling a pad, cutting an access path, or adjusting slope so water moves away from where you build or park.

What we grade

  • Small building pads and level areas
  • Access paths and rough ground prep
  • Smoothing ground after clearing
  • Minor drainage corrections
  • Prep for fencing, sheds, and small outbuildings

Right-size equipment, honest limits

Our work is done with a compact track loader, which is ideal for small to mid-size jobs. Large earthmoving, such as big cuts and fills, ponds, or foundation excavation, is work for dozers and excavators. If your project needs that, we will tell you on the walk instead of taking a job the equipment cannot do well.

What we need to know to quote

  • What you are building or trying to fix: a pad, a path, a drainage problem
  • Roughly how large the area is and where water goes now
  • Access for the machine and where material can go if the ground is cut or filled
  • Where buried lines run. Call 811 before any digging, and mark anything you already know about

You do not need exact measurements. We look at the ground together on the free walk and work out the plan from there.

Why drainage matters in West Tennessee

Much of West Tennessee has silty soil that erodes easily and turns soft when wet. Grading with water flow in mind helps keep rain from washing out an access path or pooling where you build. It also helps to do grading work when the ground is dry enough, so we may reschedule after heavy rain.

Grading after clearing

Clearing and grading go together. After forestry mulching or land clearing, we can shape the ground in the same visit when the scope allows, which saves a second mobilization. Tell us your plan on the walk and we will quote the whole job together.

Getting ready for the walk

  • Have your building or site plan handy if you have one
  • Tell us about wet spots, drainage issues, and anywhere water collects after rain
  • Send photos before the walk if you can, and text them to (731) 255-3656
How pricing works. We do not quote per acre. After a free on-site walk you get a written quote built on a day rate, with a not-to-exceed cap, so you know the most you will pay before any work starts. See how our pricing works.

We are based in Jackson and take jobs within about 50 miles, including Madison County and surrounding West Tennessee towns such as Milan, Humboldt, Brownsville, Henderson, Lexington, Bolivar, and Dyersburg. Not sure you are covered? Send your address through the form below and we will confirm.

Grading & Leveling questions.

How big of an area can you grade? +
We work best on small to mid-size areas such as pads, access paths, and yard-size projects. For larger earthmoving we will tell you honestly when a job needs bigger equipment.
Can you grade right after clearing? +
Often yes. When the scope allows, we shape the ground in the same visit, which can save time and mobilization. We include it in the same written quote.
Do you do finish grading for lawns? +
We can level and smooth ground so it is ready for seed or sod. Discuss your goal on the walk so we can confirm what the equipment can achieve.
What about drainage? +
We can make minor drainage corrections as part of grading. Larger drainage projects that need culverts or major earthwork may need other contractors, and we will say so.
How does pricing work? +
We quote on a day rate after a free on-site walk, with a not-to-exceed cap in writing, so you know the most you will pay before work starts.
